What is a Bones Tumor? |
Lump is called as tumor when cell divide abnormally and uncontrollably which they can form a mass of lump of tissue. Bone tumor forms in bone and abnormal tissue can displace healthy tissue.
Some tumor are benign and not cancerous which benign bone tumor won’t spread to other parts of the body and are unlikely to cause death. Benign tumors can growth and could compress healthy bone tissue.

Risk factor is anything that affects chance of getting a disease such as tumor. Different tumor has different risk factors. There are several risk factor of bone tumor:
- Age
Osteosarcoma is generally diagnosed in teenager or young adult. There is also a rise in incident of osteosarcoma after the age of 60.
- Injuries and knocks
People often think that a knock or injury to a bone can cause a cancer. But research studies do not support this. It is more likely that an injury causes swelling, which shows up a cancer that is already there. Or a bone affected by cancer may be weakened and so is more likely to become damaged in an accident. Doctors may then spot the tumor when they are investigating accident.
- Cancer treatment
Exposure to radiation can cause bone cancer. If have had radiotherapy in the past to an area of the body that includes bones, you have an increased risk of getting an osteosarcoms in that area. This is very small risk for most people. The greatest risk is for people treated at young age with high doses of radiotherapy. Only 1 person in several hundred treated with radiotherapy will get a bone cancer.
- Genetic factor
A condition called Li-Fraumeni syndrome runs in families. It is caused by a gene fault inherited from parent. If have Li-Fraumeni syndrome, have an increased risk of several cancers, including bone cancer.
- Ethnicity
A study of Ewing sarcoma over a period of 30 years in America showed that white Americans have a risk of this type of bone cancer that is nine times higher than black American.
- Being born with a hernia
Children born with a hernia of the tummy button are 3 times more likely to have a Ewing’s sarcoma. An umbilical hernia is caused by a weakness of the muscle around the belly button. Researcher think as the embryo grows. Factor that contribute to an umbilical hernia also make the child more likely to develop a Ewing’s sarcoma.
What is Bone Tumor Symptom? |
There are several symptoms that may occur as bone cancer development and growth, with pain being the most frequent symptom.
- Bone pain
Pain is the most common sign of born tumor, and may become more noticeable as the tumor growth. Born pain can cause a dull or deep ache in a bone or bone region. Early on, the pain may only occur at night or when active.
- Swelling
The area where the pain is localized may begin to show signs of swelling or a lump or mass may be present.
- Fractures
Tumor cell can weaken the bone, and this may sometimes result in a fracture.
- Decreased Mobility
In some cases, if the location of the tumor is near a joint, it may take normal movements difficult or painful.
